Artwork+Projects > Daily Self-Portraits

Since July 28, 2013 I have been creating a self-portrait every day using various media like paint, markers, charcoal and found papers. I always work from a live image of myself - usually in front of a mirror, but sometimes using my computer camera or phone. I generally complete each portrait within thirty minutes, and then record the date and time-frame of its creation. These are my only “rules.” The pictorial result is dependent on factors such as: my studio environment, schedule constraints, available materials, personal interest in the project that day, and/or what media I'm listening to at the time. Each portrait is a documentation of my psycho-social state as much as it is a representation of my physicality.

The daily self portrait project has launched two site-specific installations, One is a Crowd (2017) and Self Exam (2016).

This practice continues indefinitely, and the complete archive of portraits is updated regularly at ursulagullow.tumblr.com
